About God

There is only one God, eternally existing in three distinct persons: The Father, The Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are the same and each has all the characteristics of God. God is the Creator and the Sustainer of the universe and everything in it. ( Mark 12:29 , 1 John 5: 7 , Genesis 1: 1 )

About Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is one with God the Father and with the Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ is our Savior, born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, and died on a cross for all sins, and rose from the dead on the third day to demonstrate his victory over death and sin. He ascended to heaven and will return again to earth to reign as our mighty King. ( John 3:16 ; Luke 1:35 ; 1 John 3: 5 ; Romans 1: 4 ; 1 Timothy 6:15 ; Luke 24:51 ; Acts 1: 6-11 ; Revelation 19:16 )

About the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is one with God the Father and Jesus Christ. Those who accept Christ as their Savior receive the Holy Spirit to live within them. The Holy Spirit works as our comforter, our guide, and our intercessor. The Holy Spirit provides direction for living, understanding the Bible, and He intercedes in prayer for them. ( 1 John 5: 7 ; Ephesians 1: 13-14 ; 2 Timothy 1:14 ; Luke 12:12 ; Romans 8: 26-27 )

About the Bible

Our foundation is firmly based on the Bible as our final authority for Christian belief and as a guide for living. The Bible is divinely inspired by God, without error, given to men so that we can know and understand the truth of God and his love. ( 2 Timothy 3:16 , Psalm 119: 105 , 2 Peter 1: 20-21 , Isaiah 40: 8 , Isaiah 55:11 )

About Salvation

Salvation is not something that can be bought or earned. It is a free gift from God provided by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross, and received through faith. It is available to all who accept Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord. That faith is demonstrated through repentance from sin and a life of loving obedience to God. There is literally a heaven and a hell. Those who accept salvation through Jesus Christ will live eternally with Him in heaven. Those who reject Jesus Christ will spend eternity separated from God in hell. ( Ephesians 2: 8-9 ; 2 Peter 3: 9 ; John 14:23 ; John 14: 2-3 ; Revelation 20:15 ; 1 John 5: 11-12 )

Our Biblical Mandate

The Parable of the Good Samaritan

“Now which of these three would you say was a neighbor to the man who was attacked by bandits?” Jesus asked. The man replied, “The one who showed him mercy.” Then Jesus said, “Yes, now go and do the same.”  Luke 10:25-37

The Sheep and the Goats

“Then they will reply, ‘Lord, when did we ever see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and not help you?’  “And he will answer, ‘I tell you the truth, when you refused to help the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were refusing to help me.’  “And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous will go into eternal life.”

True Fasting

“No, this is the kind of fasting I want: Free those who are wrongly imprisoned; lighten the burden of those who work for you. Let the oppressed go free, and remove the chains that bind people. Share your food with the hungry, and give shelter to the homeless. Give clothes to those who need them, and do not hide from relatives who need your help. “Then your salvation will come like the dawn, and your wounds will quickly heal. Your godliness will lead you forward, and the glory of the LORD will protect you from behind. Then when you call, the LORD will answer. ‘Yes, I am here,’ he will quickly reply. “Remove the heavy yoke of oppression. Stop pointing your finger and spreading vicious rumors! Feed the hungry, and help those in trouble. Then your light will shine out from the darkness, and the darkness around you will be as bright as noon.”

Canceling Debts

“If there is a poor man with you, one of your brothers, in any of your towns in your land which the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not harden your heart, nor close your hand from your poor brother; but you shall freely open your hand to him, and shall generously lend him sufficient for his need in whatever he lacks. …You shall give generously to him, and your heart shall not be grieved when you give to him, because for this thing the Lord your God will bless you in all your work and in all your undertakings.”  Deuteronomy 15:7-8, 10
Mission Southside is based on the relational teachings and principles of Jesus Christ. Jesus spoke clearly about loving others, caring for people and their needs and giving ourselves as living sacrifices. But Jesus’ actions spoke louder than words, which is true love.  Mission Southside is a ministry that reaches out by caring first for their physical needs and ultimately their spiritual journey.  Mission Southside does this by giving to those in need who also desperately need to know about God’s Love through His Son, Jesus Christ.

Mission Southside has a neighbor’s heart …

I am a teacher and I noticed one of my young children with a smile on her face and just a confidence that I had not seen before.  I asked her where she got the nice clothes (looked brand new and nicer than anything I had seen her wear before).  The little girl said that she got the clothes at a FREE Garage Sale that Mission Southside provided in her trailer community.  These nice clothes brought a smile to her face and a hop in her step with a renewed sense of pride and feeling special.
Mission Southside is not a church, but partners with churches, “helps” organizations, businesses, and individuals to bring hope to Johnson County, KS through the meeting of both physical and spiritual needs. The need has never been greater than it is now. In a county known for its excess, the “poor” have increased tremendously over the last 5 years and the lack of basic necessities: food, shelter and clothing, have also increased, making our role, to bring help and hope to those in need, essential to the community.
